Research Incentive Award Policy – Revised December, 2019

AGENDA – I:

Revising the policy on Incentive payments for Research Papers published in ISI Indexed Impact Factor Journals or other.

1. It was highlighted to the Board that to develop Research Culture in KIET Reward Incentive for Research paper published by KIET PhD faculty/ non-PhD faculty was approved vide BASR 14th September, 2014. To ascertain the modality of incentive payment needs to be discussed as the reward money has to be awarded to individual as per his/ her contribution in writing Research Paper. House was briefed that PhD faculty of KIET is to publish their one Research Paper in ISI Indexed Journal in a calendar year and the Incentive reward will be paid to them in their subsequent research papers.

2. It was also briefed that the cumulative Impact Factor of Research Papers published by the faculty of the Institute is reckoned in Ranking Criteria by HEC. The details of the Incentive Reward payment were discussed and are delineated below;

I. PhD faculty has to publish one research paper per calendar year in an Impact Factor (IF) Journal and thereafter their published Research Papers will be considered for Incentive payment as per the following policy.

a. If the PhD faculty is the First Author in his/her second and subsequent Research Papers published in a Journal with Impact Factor:

i. If the Impact Factor is > 1.0 Rs. 60, 000/-

ii. If the Impact Factor is > 0.5 and ≤ 1.0 Rs. 50, 000/-

iii. If the Impact Factor is > 0 and ≤ 0.5 Rs. 40, 000/-

The same is applicable to the non-PhD faculty and PhD Scholars as First Author: For the PhD/ non-PhD faculty and PhD Scholars as second author if the First Author of the Research Paper is not from PAF-KIET.

I. If the Impact Factor is > 1.0 Rs. 40, 000/-

ii. If the Impact Factor is > 0 and ≤ 1.0 Rs. 30, 000/-

For the PhD/ non-PhD faculty and PhD Scholars as Third author if the First Author of the Research Paper is not from PAF-KIET:

I. If the Impact Factor is > 1.0 Rs. 30, 000/-

ii. If the Impact Factor is > 0 and ≤ 1.0 Rs. 20, 000/-

II. Dr. Hashim Raza Khan, member external from NEDUET, Karachi said that HEC counts only up to third author, therefore incentive reward was restricted up to third author only.

III. As per prevailing policy for PhD faculty; who fails to publish their mandatory first Research Paper in a calendar year, will not be considered for any annual KPI increment.

IV. In case there are multiple authors from KIET, then the benefits will be distributed among the authors, as decided by the first author from KIET in the list of authors.

V. If multiple authors from KIET include both faculty member(s) and student(s), then the type of incentive will be decided by the first author from KIET in the list of authors who is also a faculty member.

VI. For ISI indexed journal papers, which have been accepted and require publication fee be paid, KIET will provide a funding of up to US $ 400/- to be deducted from cash incentives for such a publication. Therefore, for PhD faculty this facility will only be available for second and subsequent publications of the year.

VII. Incentives for Research Papers Published in other than ISI Indexed Journals by non-PhD/PhD faculty

There are also cash rewards for research publications in other categories of journals; however, for these publications PhD/ non-PhD faculty will be given following rewards:

For a publication in KIET’s own research journals i.e. (Journal of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Market Forces) or ‘X‘and ‘Y’ category of HEC recognized journals, there is a cash reward of Rs 30,000/- and Rs. 25, 000/-respectively.

For publications with multiple authors from KIET, policy as per above Para 2 (II), (III), (IV) & (V) will be followed.

In case the First author is not from KIET and if the second author is from KIET, then he/ she will also be entitled for the Incentive Award. (ASRB Dec. 2019).

Note: PhD Scholars counting their Research Papers towards PhD Degree requirement will not be entitled for any Research Incentive Award
