• Worked on Australian Research Council (ARC) grant to develop video-based robust face
recognition algorithms, incorporating compressive sensing and sparse learning
methodologies.

Aug 2005 – Jan 2007: Network Engineer,
IBM (in collaboration with ITC, Information Technology Centre),
KFUPM, Dhahran – 31261
Saudi Arabia.
• Project Leader for installation, deployment and commissioning of WiMAX backhaul
connectivity transforming the end to end connectivity from wired network to the WiMAX
for various remote subscribers. Hands on experience on Base Station (AN100U SC) and
Subscriber Station by Redline Communications. The project was a joint venture of Intel,
Redline Communications and the KFUPM.
• Project Leader for deployment of one of the largest and earliest WiFi last mile solution in
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using IEEE 802.11g standard. RF planning and
optimization using the state of art tools, AirMagnet Surveyor (3.0) and AirMagnet
Analyzer (3.0). Hands on experience on configuration of Cisco Aironet AP 1200 and
Cisco Inline Power Switches (PoE) Catalyst 3560. The project, being a joint venture of
the IBM and the KFUPM, encompasses approximately 400 access points proving to be a
break through in WiFi implementation in KSA, we further provided consultancy to
various academic institutions.
• RF optimization of the RF environment using RF heatmaps with the specialized software
tool, Airwave Management Platform
• Complete SNMP management and monitoring of the WiFi network using Wireless Lan
Solution Engine (WLSE) performing various task such as :
o Optimization of RF parameters to cope with the dynamic radio environment
o Fault and policy monitoring
o Intrusion detection and its mitigation
o Site management
o Frequency interference calculation and management
o Self healing
o Central IOS upgrade/ configuration
• Project Leader for deployment of the WiFi end to end bridge connectivity, using Aironet
AP 1300, of remote academic buildings with the KFUPM enterprise network. The
project has been tested and evaluated in test environment and will be launched very soon.
• Project Leader for providing WiFi backhaul connection to Science and Technology Park
(SCITECH) using Aironet AP 1400. My proposed project has already been evaluated
and approved and will be launched very soon.
• Complete network management and monitoring of more than 400 network devices
(Cisco, HP etc.) encompassing more than 50 connected buildings and providing network
services to more than 3000 users. Hands on experience on professional tools such as
CiscoWorks 2000, WhatsUP Professional 2006 and MRTG for central monitoring and
surveillance.
• Hands on experience for SMS Gateway integration with the WhatsUP professional 2006.
• Deployment of Cisco IP/TV system in the campus, including CISCO IP/TV 3425 and
CISCO IP/TV 3412. Project Leader for integration of CISCO IP/TV StreamWatch with
the CISCO IP/TV 3425.
• Deployment and management of the HDSL network using the PairGain modems.
• Management of Cisco Secure ACS (v 3.0) for authentication of the RAS users with the
Windows Active Directory.
• Remote and out of band management of network devices using Cyclades AlterPath
Advanced Console Server (2.3.1), Power Manager and Remote Presence systems.
July 2002 – Jan 2003: Trainee Engineer,

• I was a member of the technical team which, for the first time in Pakistan launched the
CDMA cellular network. The project was a joint venture of the TeleCard and the ZTE.

o BTS (Base Transceiver Station )
o Microwave Link
o OMC (Operation and Maintenance Center)

• Holder of Signal and Information Processing (SIP) lab Publication Prize 2009 on account
of the prestigious IEEE TPAMI Publication.
• Have successfully completed a number of funded research projects including but not
limited to Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Grants DP0771294,
DP0664228, DP0881813 and UWA Research Grant 2007.
• Completed the doctorate degree in a record duration of approximately two years. The
PhD thesis was submitted as a compilation of publications.
