Dr Syed Muhammad Khaliq-ur-Rahman Raazi

Dr. Syed Muhammad Khaliq-ur-Rahman Raazi received his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Kyung Hee University, South Korea in 2010, MS in Computer Science from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan in 2006 and BE is Computer Software from National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), Rawalpindi, Pakistan in 2002. Currently, he is working in Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology Pakistan (KIET), Karachi, Pakistan as Assistant Professor. 

His research interests include Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks, Ubiquitous Health Care, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks, High Speed Networks and Mobility in High Speed Networks.

  • Assistant Professor in Karachi Institute of Economics & Technology, Karachi since April 2011. I am involved in teaching computer network related graduate and undergraduate courses. Also, I am involved in supervising undergraduate projects and graduate (MS and PhD) thesis.
  • Research Assistant in Ubiquitous Computing Lab., Kyung Hee University, South Korea, as a member of Ubiquitous Security Group. September 2006-August 2010. I have worked on key management for different networks of wireless sensors. Networks of Wireless Sensors differ in scale, topology and security requirements. Also, I did research on the effects of these differences on key management.
  • Graduate Research Assistant in Communications and Networking Lab., Lahore University of Management Sciences. September 2004-February 2006. I studied Computer Networking Protocols, Network Traffic Modeling and MPLS. Also, I performed simulations for creating spanning trees in LANs.



  • Location Estimation using Location Fingerprinting and Kalman Filter. Location of a mobile device is calculated using initial value of X-Y coordinates and Newton’s equations of motion. Then RF signal values at the target location are communicated to a server, which sends back possible X-Y coordinates of the target location using a database of RF fingerprints. Calculated X-Y coordinates and possible X-Y coordinates, from the database, are fed into Kalman filter to estimate current location of the device.
  • IGI-sponsored project that develops an authentication and access control solution for mobile devices in virtual product and manufacturing environments.
  • Bounded Traffic simulation: Network traffic is usually characterized using Poisson model due to the simplicity in its calculations. Studies show that this model is far from reality. Bounded traffic model suggests that input traffic should be characterized by two parameters: long term rate and maximum burst size. I simulated both the bounded traffic model and the Poisson model for characterizing input traffic into a switch. Block probabilities, in blocking switches, for the incoming packets were calculated for both traffic.
  • Networking Protocols: Implemented spanning tree protocol and routing information protocol in C on Solaris platform.
  • RDP (Reliable Datagram Protocol) Layer over UDP: I developed an RDP layer which provides reliability to the transfer of files from server to client. JAVA language was used.
